Building Committee

Plains Bible Chapel is growing in attendance and the expanding is beginning to show. The building that holds the church seems to be shrinking, so in response, the Deacons have created a building committee to ease the strain. The Deacons understand that it is the people that make the church not the building, but also see the need for more room to continue to allow the growth. We ask for your continuous prayers for the building committee as this task is not an easy one. This is a wonderful time for the Chapel and you can make a difference, a building fund has been set up and is offering you a way to support the project. The building committee is working hard to create a building that will serve our church both now and in the near future.

Deacons Job Description

In Acts 6:1-7 the early Church in Jerusalem found that because of the growth of the Church it became necessary to select from the congregation a number of spiritually mature and growing men to help with the corporal tasks of the Church. There were specified qualifications for these men because any time men unite for the purpose of furthering the work of the Kingdom of God, whether the task be spiritual or physical, there will be potential opposition.

At the Plains Bible Chapel we also have a need for such men and are always looking for those who might serve in this capacity. There is no maximum number who may serve on the Deacon Board at any one time. The term for a Deacon is one year (generally from annual meeting to annual meeting). After a yearly term the Deacons will be asked to re-evaluate their commitment, as to whether they would choose to serve another year. A Deacon may also be removed from his position for disciplinary and redemptive purposes (The Board of Elders would be involved in this process). The rewards for serving as a Deacon are eternal and should be considered seriously.

Qualifications:

      Read: I Timothy 3:8-13     Titus 3:1-11     Acts 6:1-7

The primary responsibilities of the Deacon board are the management of the Church building and grounds and serving and caring for others during Church sponsored meetings and events.

Head Deacon Job Description

The Head Deacon will be responsible for the management of the Church building. This will include all building, repairs and maintenance to and on the building and grounds of the Church. This will include weekly church cleaning and the stocking of supplies in the cleaning closet. He will also be responsible for putting together a lawn mowing schedule in the summer and seeing that the walk is free of ice and snow in the winter. The Head Deacon will work with the Board of Ministries to organize work days and will have a tentative schedule of these events drawn up for review at the December Ministries Board meeting.

General Guidelines For Board Of Ministries

Meetings of the Ministries Board will be on the 1st Tuesday of February, May, August, and November at 7 PM. It will be our goal to end these meetings by 8 PM in order to give time for separate meetings of elders, deacons, and women’s ministries to meet afterwards.

Qualifications For Board Of Ministries

A person who wishes to fill a position on the Board of Ministries must make public testimony of their faith in Christ as Savior and Lord. They must be in agreement with the Doctrinal Statement of the Church. It is expected that each leader regularly attend Sunday School and Worship on Sunday and be on time to these services. They must attend all meetings of the Ministries Board or supply a replacement from their committee. They must be mature enough to not be divisive and accept cheerfully the consensus of the Ministries board. They must be willing to do evaluation on all aspects of the ministries performed and be willing to be accountable to the Elders of the Church. Any replacements or additions of Ministry Board personnel must first meet the approval of the Board of Elders.

Whenever the building is used, it is the responsibility of the Person in charge of the event to see that it is clean for the next group to use. This may involve vacuuming, sweeping, washing dishes, supplying toilet paper or paper towels, turning off all heaters, appliances, and lights, closing windows, and locking doors.

Pastor Joel Banham
Pastor Joel Banham

Excited by the new growth, Pastor Joel starts building "Old School" style. We're all glad the Deacons were able to talk him into a building committee instead.
